In just 10 weeks, this medical Spanish course helps you…
Connect better with Spanish-speaking patients
Speaking someone’s language (albeit imperfect) generates a personal connection that you can’t replicate through telephone interpreters, video interpreters or face to face interpreters.
Improve the quality of care your Spanish-speaking patients receive
Every study shows that patient outcomes improve when they receive care in their preferred language.
Feel better about your work with Spanish-speaking patients
Wouldn’t it be a great feeling to know that you’re taking calculated steps to do all that you can within your time constraints to make a bigger difference?
Alleviate Frustrations
It’s natural to get frustrated and have some anxieties when you are providing care in another language. Interpreter phones are clunky & communication feels less personal
Build more trust
“Confianza” is the Spanish word for trust, and it’s proven to positively impact patient adherence to treatment plans and therefore patient outcomes.
Broaden your impact
At Common Ground International, we’re all about impacting communities through language. Every moment you spend working on your Spanish has a ripple effect in your community!
Early registration is only open and seats are limited! Simply put, this medical Spanish course is going to improve your communication and allow you to better connect with your patients.
What is the time commitment for the recorded lessons and the weekly live classes?
You can expect to spend 2-3 hours per week working through the recorded content, memorizing vocabulary, and completing the lesson activities
The live classes last 1hr each. Most people choose to attend consistently either the 10am session or the 7pm session (mountain time)… but you’re able to switch between sessions as your schedule demands or attend both! If you can’t attend either session, we record them for you to catch later.
Spring ’25 MMS Course schedule:
Lesson 1 live class is on Tuesday March 18th at 10am or 7pm Mountain time.
Each week a new lesson opens on Tuesdays right after the evening live class.
Each week we have live classes on Tuesdays at 10a and 7p Mountain time to practice the previous week’s lesson
The final live class of the Sring ’25 MMS session is May 20th, 2025.

This medical Spanish course improves your “Functional Fluency” and patient outcomes.
This class has been wonderful for me. I’ve built a lot of confidence and been able to use Spanish with my patients. It has really laid down a groundwork where I can keep learning more with the confidence that it’s given me.
Kaitlin B.
I don’t think there is anything more frustrating than not being able to communicate with your patients, whether that’s altered mental status, altered level of consciousness, or a language barrier. I can’t control the first two, but I can do something about the language barrier. This course has been really great for me, I wholeheartedly recommend it for you!

I have tried for years to learn Spanish on my own, with some success, but I really needed to take my language skills to the next level. A friend of mine recommended CGI, so I enrolled in MMS and I have learned a tremendous amount!
I’ve taken both the Beginning and Intermediate MMS courses. It’s been a wonderful experience. Rory & Leslie are very helpful… It’s a good way for you to be able to master enough language skills to comfortably communicate with your patients.

I just finished MMS with Rory & Leslie… Rory and Leslie helped me understand where my bad habits in Spanish were and fixed them… I noticed that not only my Spanish was improving, but everyone’s Spanish in class was improving. That tells me that their system works!

I’ve been working on my Spanish for about 3 years now… It’s been hard to find a tutor who knows the medical vocabulary I need as a recovery room nurse… But they’re great at helping you translate medical terms and explain them in more simplified terms. The thing that I really enjoy about this course is that they give you a lot of time for practicing and applying the Spanish you’re learning.

This has been fun, interactive, and educational. It is streamlined to help you learn the most useful information to connect with your patients effectively. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this course! It is a great way to practice Spanish in a classroom setting, but without the stress of it being a traditional class. With that in mind, it is on you to study the material each week and hold yourself accountable to get the most out of the lecture. If that is your style of learning/studying, then this is 100% the course for you!
Marissa Werchan

I have appreciated the varied format of lessons, quizzes, flashcards and interactive elements. I thought it was nice there was a certain amount of structure w/ deadlines, which did help me even though I got more and more behind as the class progressed. I liked the break out sessions during the live lessons where I got a chance to work through challenges w/ others. Also, you are really good at explaining concepts (like the lesson on past tense verbs with different meanings- so useful)

MMS has been a comprehensive, practical medical Spanish course that provided opportunities to improve my medical spanish and has given me more confidence in speaking with my spanish-speaking patients.

Common Ground International’s online Medical Spanish course is very comprehensive and probably the best anywhere for health professionals of all levels. Rory is an amazing teacher and is very responsive to feedback as he is constantly evaluating and changing program elements to meet students’ needs. I highly recommend this course!
Gail Spiegel
I really enjoyed this course! My Spanish improved to the point where my patients were complimenting me! I am not fluent (or even close) but I can communicate the basics in Spanish, understand my patients better, and follow the conversation better when using an interpreter. The vocabulary lessons were great, as well as learning about online resources for future use. Rory is an engaging, patient teacher who is responsive and helpful, and feels more like a friend than an instructor—but who is a knowledgeable, talented educator. He really goes the extra mile to answer questions and make sure everyone is learning the best way they can.
Colette Russen
Excellent course! Very relevant to medical practical Spanish. Good learning styles with a mix of written and audio experiences. Practice sessions were very helpful and made me more comfortable. Rory was able to make sure to align levels live so you didn’t feel like you were talking beneath or above your level. Able to do my own, so if I had to skip a week, I could make it up or keep up in other ways. Would do this again.
Marian McDonald
The course was well thought out, well run and extremely helpful. My progress in learning Spanish was significant and there was also content on understanding Hispanic/Latino culture that I found fascinating and enjoyable. As in most things, you get out of the course what you put into it. I used all the resources fully and it was very beneficial to me.
Cheryl Gilbert
I started with intermediate MMS and recently took Advanced MMS. The attitudes of Rory and Andrea are very positive and supportive. It became easier for me to speak spanish in class and not worry so much about being wrong. They are both spanish language experts and are available outside of class or have office hours. Rory’s videos and accompanying printable notes are excellent – very comprehensive and applicable. I especially appreciated his presentations of the subjunctive, para and por, imperfect and preterit and the comparison of tener and estar with symptoms. The live class is well-organized and we got an email before class giving an outline of what will be covered in class. Then after class, the live class video is available to watch as well as the updated outline is available to print. A big plus for these classes is that you can connect with other healthcare professionals from the class in order to practice. I am very lucky that I have had a motivated and interesting person to practice with. I highly recommend these classes. The information presented is comprehensive. Rory and Andrea are both so positive and I get to practice speaking spanish with two people from opposite sides of the U.S. who were in my medical spanish classes.
Jeannie Peterson
Mastering Medical Spanish really helped me take the next steps in connecting with my patients in their native language. It’s helped me feel more comfortable with understanding their needs and communicating with them as effectively as I can. Thank you!
Blaine Olsen
Connecting with my patients has been my goal since enrolling in MMS. This semester, I have been able to have actual conversations with patients and it’s because of MMS. Whatever your learning style, the CGI team has a method to help!
Shanna Moss
I found the MMS course just by searching online, and reading the reviews really solidified my decision to sign up. I have now taken the Beginner MMS twice (just repeated it in Winter 2021) and my vocabulary, speaking knowledge, and listening comprehension are all improved. I was a beginner at the very start of my journey and now would consider myself an intermediate learner. Rory and Leslie are SO encouraging, and I felt nothing but welcome during the entire course. The live sessions are interactive and fun and having a conversation partner is KEY! I did not pursue a partner the first time I took the course, so the second time around I made a promise to myself to find a partner. It helped me tremendously! If you are looking for an interactive and encouraging environment to learn medical Spanish, this is it.
Kelsey Gober
Mastering Medical Spanish has helped me be a more effective doctor and to have a direct and warm relationship with my Spanish speaking patients.
Mark Morris
I took the MMS class in the fall of 2020 at the beginner level and returned in the spring of 2021 at the intermediate level. This class has helped me feel more confident in my listening comprehension of Spanish. But, most importantly, the weekly live sessions have greatly improved my skills and confidence with speaking Spanish. I am looking forward to taking the Advanced MMS class in the fall. Thank you to Rory and Leslie for helping me with my Spanish speaking journey.
Stephanie Scheid
I thought this was a wonderful CME course. Let’s face it…most CME courses are painful to sit through. I really loved this course and learned SO much Spanish in a non-threatening and really entertaining way. Most of the students were other health care providers, so we connected very easily with each other and helped each other out. Rory, Andrea and Stephanie were all excellent instructors. I have been stuck at a certain point in my Spanish journey, and this course helped me to move ahead to a place where I feel comfortable speaking the language. While I won’t pretend to be fluent (yet!) I know I can carry on a basic conversation, which has helped me to build a better rapport with my Spanish-speaking patients.
Suzanne Fontecchio
This course is truly top notch and should be taken by every medical professional that has Spanish speaking patients. From live sessions, to weekly meetings with a partner, to the prerecorded courses, all the bases are covered as you speak, listen, read and write in Spanish throughout each lesson. Without a doubt my speaking and comprehension has improved significantly over the last few months. Thanks to CGI for such a fantastic course – this is exactly what I needed!
