How to take a Family Medical History in Spanish with a few simple verbs, family relationship vocabulary and common family medical conditions vocabulary in Spanish.
You can get a meaningful family medical history from your Spanish-only patients while you keep the grammar simple. These essential questions and command of family terminology in Spanish will help you take a family history in Spanish.
A few essential verbs and phrases from the lesson:
- Hay is the verb that means “there is” and “there are” in Spanish. When you put it into a question it becomes “Is there…?” and “Are there…?”. So if you want to ask the question: “Is there a history of ____ in your family?” it would go like this: ¿Hay una historia de ____ en su familia?
- Ha tenido is the present perfect form of the verb TENER and it means “has had”. So if you wanted to ask the question: “Has anyone in your family had ___?” you would use ha tenido like this: ¿Alguien en su familia ha tenido ____?
- Padecer de and sufrir de are two great verbs in Spanish that mean that you have an illness. They’re used in a similar way as we would say that someone has “heart problems” or “has a bad liver, kidneys, etc”. So for example, let’s say “my dad has a bad heart” = Mi papá padece del corazón. And let’s say: “My grandmother deals with diabetes” = Mi abuela sufre de diabetes.
