INFO MEETING
Wednesday Apr. 29th, 2026 – Register below!
(5pm Pacific, 6pm Mountain, 7pm Central & 8pm Eastern)

This presentation is a general overview of our Spanish immersion programs in Argentina and Chile.

If you missed our latest info meeting, watching the replay is probably the best way to get all the info you need
This luxury Spanish immersion trip takes you to the Malbec wine region of Argentina and the Torres del Paine national park in Chile. Improve your conversational Spanish through: classes, award-winning wine tastings, host families in Argentina and our traveling classroom in Patagonia!
WEEK 2 · TORRES DEL PAINE, CHILE

The Traveling Classroom in Patagonia

After a week of classes, bodegas and host family life in Mendoza, your Spanish moves outdoors. For five days in and around Torres del Paine National Park, the Traveling Classroom is in session: you’ll explore one of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth on foot, by boat and on horseback — entirely in Spanish, with local guides and your CGI teachers on every trail.

Choose your pace, keep the Spanish

Half-day hikes (3–5 miles) and full-day hikes (8–10 miles) run daily in small groups of up to 8 — every group with a local guide and a CGI teacher.

Glaciers, by catamaran

Cross to a glacier and learn the language of ice, wind and deep time from the people who live with it.

Ride with gauchos

A horseback excursion into gaucho culture — tack, traditions and trail talk, en español.

Flora, fauna and fireside debriefs

Guanacos, condors, calafate berries: name what you see by day, retell it over dinner and a Chilean wine by night.
By the time you fly home, Patagonia won’t just be photos on your phone. It will be stories you can tell — in Spanish — because you lived every one of them in the language.
I’m interested!

Inside the Mendoza Week

Morning Spanish classes with our local teachers — afternoons and evenings living the culture of one of the great wine regions of the world, at the height of the cosecha (harvest) season. You will live with a carefully selected host family: a meaningful part of what makes this an immersion program rather than just a trip.
Vineyards and bodegas
Tastings and unhurried farm-to-table meals at high-end bodegas
La Vendimia
The premier wine harvest festival of Argentina: music, dance and street parades
Mate culture
Learn to prepare the perfect cup — a ritual of connection with many unspoken rules
Estancia day
A traditional asado with local gauchos
Hands-on cooking
Empanada making and the flavors of Argentine home kitchens
Aconcagua National Park
High-mountain exploring at the base of the Andes

Questions worth addressing head-on

Two things that came up at the info meeting — and the honest answers.

Why is the deadline so early?

Because we have real money going down in early June — deposits to secure your spot in the Patagonia lodges, trails, and guides, and host families and bodega tours in Mendoza during the height of the grape harvest season. The same reality that makes this trip exclusive — limited access, capped capacity, short weather window — is what drives that timing. We can’t reserve in the abstract; we have to commit to specific spots, on specific dates, with specific outfitters. That’s why the deadline exists, and why working with you on it requires a real conversation.

What do you mean when you call this a “luxury” trip?

It’s worth addressing head-on, because the word “luxury” can suggest pretension — and that’s not what we mean. When we call this trip a luxury experience, we’re not talking about gilded surfaces or status branding. We’re talking about exclusivity born of geography: Torres del Paine has a short operating window, limits on park entrances, and a small number of lodges with capped concessions. You can’t just show up. The places we stay, the access we have, the trails we walk — these are coordinated months in advance and reserved for travelers who plan ahead. So when we say luxury, we mean rare, remote, and carefully held. Not showy. Worth knowing the difference, because it shapes who this trip is really for.

“We had a lot of experiences with wine tasting, which is what Mendoza is known for around the world… we participated in some really nice excursions. Patagonia is one of the reasons we came, it’s someplace that’s just been amazing to visit. Absolutely beautiful! We’re so happy that we joined Common Ground to learn Spanish. And I think it’s been really great to be able to speak Spanish with “hispano-hablantes”, because you just get to know people better when you speak their language.”
Caroline & Mark D.
“My first experience with Common Ground was traveling to Ecuador in 2024, and it was just a fabulous experience. When I saw the opportunity to come on this trip to Mendoza, Argentina and Patagonia, I jumped on it because I had such a positive time in Ecuador, and it has fully met all my expectations… I just can’t say enough. It’s been a great experience, and overall, I would give this five stars if you have the chance to do it.”
Jennie S.
“My first experience with Common Ground was in Costa Rica a couple of years ago, and I was really excited to come back and have this experience in Argentina and Chile. When I was with my host family in Mendoza, they were absolutely amazing, and I had such a good time… The classes were incredible. We were three friends in a class, and we all said it was the best teacher we’d ever had… The second goal was seeing Patagonia… enjoying the wonderful mountains, the hiking, just the camaraderie of the group… It was beautiful, and it was wonderful and the experience of the whole group was great. So, I have to recommend this highly.
Carla C.
“I can tell you that my experience in the totality of the trip was, that it was fundamentally so well-organized, so clearly set up to make it exciting and interesting every single day. Probably the thing that I enjoyed most was the hike up the base of Torres. That was an incredible experience, just to look at those towers and to realize that I managed to climb all that way up… It’s definitely been five-stars, we’ve had great meals, great wine. The staff have just been incredibly helpful and taking care of us like we’re part of their family. It was just an experience beyond belief, and if you have an opportunity to take advantage of something like this, I would encourage you. It’s not about the cost. It’s more about how much you can improve your Spanish as a result of this kind of immersive and exciting experience.”
Bob W.
“It has been a phenomenal experience. The classes in Mendoza were phenomenal. The family was wonderful. I didn’t know that I would love Argentina as much as I did. I thought I might love Patagonia, and it surpassed every expectation.”
Ryann B.
“For some people, Patagonia is in their bucket list, and they have certain excursions or walks or hikes they want to go on. I didn’t know that much about Patagonia, but I knew I loved Common Ground, as I’d gone with them in Costa Rica in 2024. Don’t be afraid if you’re older and you aren’t fit enough. They have something for everybody… Common Ground was incredible about accommodating and making it the best trip ever for everyone who was here, and I think they all achieved the goals that they wanted, and you could too, if you’d like to join next year.”
Tamara S.

Four Ways to Do Patagonia

We’re doing the best — here’s why

Complete transparency — the math nobody does. The headline price doesn’t tell the whole story until you compare honestly across the four real options.
  1. Backpacking the W or O Circuit — Cheapest path. Serious trekking, multi-day fitness, refugio-based comfort. Limited Spanish, limited flexibility, bare-bones.
  2. Day-tripping from Puerto Natales — More affordable. You stay in town and shuttle in — at least 4 hours every day in transit.
  3. A Patagonia cruise — Ship-based. Comfortable, but you skirt the park rather than enter it; Spanish exposure is nearly nonexistent.
  4. An inside-park all-inclusive — our program. A lodge inside park boundaries, full Spanish immersion, every meal and excursion included, top guides, private transportation.

What You’re Really Paying For

The math nobody does

We’re doing the fourth — and that’s where the math gets interesting. Four pieces of arithmetic most travelers don’t think to do, that change the picture once you put the numbers down side by side.
01

A Guided All-Inclusive Expedition

  • Every meal, drink, excursion & transfer included
  • Guide fees and national park entrances — todo incluido
  • No add-on fees, no upsells, no daily expenses
“Once you arrive, the program is the program.”
02

The Time Math: Maximize Daylight

  • Day-trippers: 1.5–2 hrs each way + 30–60 min to trailheads
  • Over 4 days, day-trippers lose a full day to transit
  • Sunrise & sunset light: unreachable from outside the park
“You’re not paying extra for the lodge — you’re paying to be there when the light is right.”
03

Expensive Because It’s Exclusive

  • Narrow window: ideal months Jan–March, weather-dependent
  • National Park limits lodging capacity & trail entrances
  • Only a handful of boutique luxury lodges inside the park
“Backpacking is the only budget way to do the park.
04

The Spanish Immersion Container

  • 10 hrs/day Spanish exposure with top local bilingual guides
  • Sobremesa — shared meals keep the language alive
  • Town hotels scatter the group; the lodge holds it together
“We’re not selling a Patagonia trip — we’re selling 15 days where your Spanish lives in the world.”
When you do the math — honestly — the picture changes.

If cost is a factor in your decision, don’t let it be a silent one. Reach out — we’ll have an honest conversation about what’s possible.
