Note: the noun “pareja” is always femenine, and it doesn’t depend on the gender of the person. It is not correct to say “el pareja”. Ex:

• ¿Quién es la pareja de María? (Who is María’s partner?)
• La pareja de María es José (José is María’s partner)

¿Cuándo fue el primer día de su último período?	When was the first day of your last period?
Su fecha probable del parto es…	Your due date is…
Es muy importante asistir a las citas prenatales y seguir las recomendaciones de dieta, estilo de vida, actividad, etc	It is very important to attend prenatal appointments and follow the recommendations of diet, lifestyle, activity, etc.
Manchas de sangre pueden ser normales durante el embarazo, pero si tiene sangrado como la regla, es importante llamarnos	Blood spots may be normal during pregnancy, but if you have bleeding like your period, it is important to call us
Las contracciones Braxton-Hicks son contracciones irregulares. Su cuerpo está practicando (preparando) para dar a luz	Braxton-Hicks contractions are irregular contractions. Your body is practicing (preparing) to give birth
Las contracciones van y vienen	The contractions come and go
Las contracciones no se empeoran ni ocurren con más frecuencia	Contractions do not get worse or occur more frequently
Las contracciones desaparecen cuando cambia de posición	The contractions disappear when you change position
La diabetes gestacional es cuando su azúcar (glucosa) en la sangre sube durante el embarazo	Gestational diabetes is when your blood sugar (glucose) rises during pregnancy
La preeclampsia es cuando su presión sube durante el embarazo	Preeclampsia is when your pressure rises during pregnancy
¿Siente el bebé moverse?	Do you feel the baby moving?

Etapa de Parto Inicial – First Stages of Labor

¿Siente el bebé moverse?	Do you feel the baby moving?
Necesitamos examinarle el cuello uterino	We need to examine the cervix
El cuello uterino está dilatado – está en 4cm	The cervix is dilated – it is 4cm

Las Contracciones:

¿Siente contracciones?	Do you feel contractions?
¿Cada cuánto tiene contracciones?	How often do you have contractions?
Cuente desde el inicio de una contracción hasta el inicio de la próxima contracción	Count from the start of a contraction to the start of the next contraction
¿Cuánto tiempo duran las contracciones?	How long do the contractions last?

Etapa de Parto Activo

¿Siente presión o dolor?	Do you feel pressure or pain?
El bebé está bajando	Baby is going down
El parto está progresando bien	Labor is progressing well
El bebé esta contento	The baby is happy
Respire	Breathe
El parto no está progresando bien	Labor is not going well
El bebé no está bajando	Baby is not lowering
La frecuencia cardíaca del bebé está bajando	The baby’s heart rate is lowering
El cordón está enrollado alrededor del cuello del bebé	The umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck
El bebé está atravesado	Baby is backward
Vamos a ponerle el monitor del cuero cabelludo	We are going to put the scalp monitor on you

Monitoreo del bebé

Frecuencia cardíaca acelerada	Accelerated heart rate
El bebé está contento	Baby is happy
Todo está bien con el bebé	Everything is fine with the baby
El bebé tolera bien el parto	Baby is tolerating labor well
El bebé tiene buen nivel de oxígeno	Baby has good level of oxigen
Frecuencia cardíaca decelera	Heart rate is decelerating
El bebé está estresado	The baby is stressed

Note: In Spanish, you need to add an article (un artículo) before the noun to determine the gender and number of that specific noun. Ex:

• El bebé
• La mamá
• Los hermanos
• Las tías

Etapa 2 – ¡Puje!

Es hora empezar a pujar para dar a luz	It’s time to begin pushing to give birth
Espere para pujar	Wait to push
Va a pujar como si moviera los intestinos, como si hiciera las necesidades	You are going to push like you are going to the bathroom, like if you were going poo
Agarre (ponga sus manos debajo de) las piernas y jale las piernas para atrás para abrir la pelvis	Grab (put your hands under) the legs and pull the legs back to open the pelvis
El bebé está coronando	Baby is crowning
¡Vemos la cabeza!	We see the head!
Episiotomía (cortarle el perineo)	Episiotomy (cutting the perineum)
Vamos a cortar el cordón umbilical	We are going to cut the umbilical cord
UCI Neonatal = Unidad de cuidado intensivo neonatal	Neonatal NCI = Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Meconio	Meconio

Etapa 3 y Posparto

Las secundinas, la placenta

Sangrado:

El sangrado debe disminuir, pero puede ir y venir	The bleeding should deminish, but it can come and go
Sangrar más que una toallita por hora es mucho – no es normal – necesita llamar a su proveedor	Bleeding more than one pad an hour is a lot – it’s not normal – you need to call your provider

Alimentación:

Leche materna	Breastmilk
Dar pecho, amamantar	Breastfeeding
Darle biberón	Give a bottle
Es buena idea alimentar al bebé antes de que se enoje	It’s a good idea to feed the baby before he/she gets angry
Ictericia = piel y/o ojos amarillenta	Jaundice = skin and / or yellowish eyes
Ejercicios Kegel 20 x 2 = como si estuviera intentando parar de orinar	Kegel exercises 20 x 2 = as if you were trying to stop urinating
