Master the Subjunctive

The Spanish subjunctive has a reputation for tripping up Spanish learners. Once you learn how and when to use it, it’s fun and your Spanish sounds more sophisticated!

In this Spanish Subjunctive Workshop you will finally understand how and when to use it AND you will implement it right away during class activities. You will…

• Learn what it is and why it has such a bad stigma
• 3 necessary elements that necessitate its use
• What triggers the subjunctive
• How do you use it
• 5 tips to use the imperfecto del subjuntivo (past subjunctive)
• Present and past tense subjunctive verb conjugations
• And- the most important part- you will practice using it immediately with a conversational partner as you complete activities together.

How does this class work?

This is a hybrid class: Your first step is to watch the videos and practice exercises in each lesson, your second step is to show up to our Zoom workshop practice session. Lessons will open 1 week before the live Zoom session. You will have 1 week to complete the lesson and practice activities before you show up for the live Zoom class.

Complete these steps in each lesson:

PASO 1: Watch the video lessons, take notes, complete the practice activities
PASO 2: Show up for the Zoom practice session
PASO 3: Complete the additional homework

The class schedule is as follows:

Lesson 1 – Opens Sept. 12 – When & how to use the Spanish Subjunctive

You have 1 week to watch the video lesson and complete the practice activities BEFORE attending the live practice session. In this lesson, you will learn:

• What it is and why it has such a bad stigma
• 3 necessary elements that necessitate its use
• How to know when to use it. And how do you use it.
• Present tense subjunctive verb conjugations

Zoom Class 1 – Sept. 19 @5pm PT, 6pm MT, 7pm CT, 8pm ET

We will practice content from lesson 1: When & how to use the Spanish Subjunctive. In this live session you will have an opportunity to reinforce and use the Spanish that you’ve been learning in these lessons.

Lesson 2 – Opens Sept. 26 – El Imperfecto del subjuntivo / Past subjuntivo

You have 1 week to watch the video lesson and complete the practice activities BEFORE attending the live practice session. In this lesson, you will learn:

• What the imperfecto del subjuntivo is?
• 6 common uses
• How to use it
• The conjugations

Zoom Class 2 – Oct. 3 @5pm PT, 6pm MT, 7pm CT, 8pm ET

We will practice content from lesson 2: El Imperfecto del subjuntivo, past subjunctive. In this live session you will have an opportunity to reinforce and use the Spanish that you’ve been learning in these lessons.

Lesson 3 – Opens Oct. 10 – When to Always, sometimes and never use the Spanish subjunctive

You have 1 week to watch the video lesson and complete the practice activities BEFORE attending the live practice session. In this lesson, you will learn:

• When to sometimes, always and never use the subjunctive
• Specific adverbial phrases that require the use of the subjunctive
• Two great acronyms to help you remember when to use it
• Review present and past subjunctive uses

Zoom Class 3 – Oct. 17 @5pm PT, 6pm MT, 7pm CT, 8pm ET

We will practice content from lesson 3: When to Always, sometimes and never use the Spanish subjunctive. In this live session you will have an opportunity to reinforce and use the Spanish that you’ve been learning in these lessons.

Who is this class ideal for?

The ideal student has studied Spanish before and has a working knowledge of present tense verbs and knows how to conjugate them. You are also able to communicate in the present tense and have can form and express sentences.
