Patrón de los verbos regulares/ Regular Verbs Patron

In Spanish, verbs follow this pattern depending on the ending of the verb. Be sure you choose the right one when talking or writing:

Person AR ER IR
Yo O O O
AS ES ES
Él, Ella, Usted A E E
Nosotros AMOS EMOS IMOS
Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes AN EN  EN

Some examples

Verbos terminados en -AR

  • Prestar atención: To pay attention (be careful with this expression because the meaning of “prestar” is To Borrow whereas “pagar” is To Pay, so in Spanish you borrow attention but don’t pay for it 😉 ).
  • Necesitar (To need): Yo necesito ir al banco (I need to go to the bank).
  • Pensar (To think): Él piensa mucho en el futuro (He thinks a lot about the future).
  • Terminar (To finish / end up): Tú siempre terminas de comer antes que yo (You always finish eating before I do)
  • Dar (To give): Ellos dan regalos a los niños en navidad (They give gifts to children at Christmas)
  • Esperar (To wait / hope):
    • Ella espera que su carta llegue pronto (She hopes her letter arrives soon)
    • ¿Usted espera a alguien? (Are you waiting for someone?)

Verbos terminados en -ER

  • Hacer (To do / make): Yo hago las tareas por las tardes (I do homework in the afternoon)
  • Ver (To see / watch): Ellos ven televisión luego de cenar (They watch television after dinner)
  • Poder (To be able to): Nosotros podemos reunirnos el fin de semana (We can meet over the weekend)
  • Tener (To have): Él tiene mi libro (He has my book)
  • Poner (To put): Ustedes ponen las manos en la mesa (You put your hands on the table)

Verbos terminados en -IR

  • Escribir (To write): Ellas escriben un ensayo (They write an essay)
  • Compartir (To share): Nosotros compartimos los juguetes (We share the toys)
  • Venir (To come): Yo vengo a ejercitarme a este parque siempre (I always come to this park to exercise)
  • Salir (To go out / leave): Usted sale más temprano los lunes (You leave earlier on Mondays)
  • Decir (To say / to tell): Tú dices mentiras algunas veces (You tell lies sometimes)
