    Blood Transfusion in Spanish: Transfusión de sangre

    What is it? / ¿Qué es?

    Una transfusión de sangre es cuando le damos sangre (limpia, saludable) por la vena. A blood transfusion is when we give you(clean, healthy) blood through the vein.

    What is it for? / ¿Para qué es?

    Es para reponer/recuperar la sangre que ha perdido. It is to replace the blood that you have lost.
    Es para aumentar el nivel de: glóbulos rojos, células blancas, plasma, plaquetas. It is to increase the level of: red blood cells, white cells, plasma, platelets.

    Where?/How? / ¿Dónde/Cómo?

    Puede durar entre 1 – 4 horas. It can last between 1 – 4 hours.
    Se hace en el hospital o en la clínica. It is done in the hospital or clinic.

    ¿Qué es?

    El cateterismo cardíaco es cuando le insertamos un tubo (catéter) en un vaso sanguíneo grande en la pierna y lo avanzamos hasta el corazón.

    Es para ver bien la función del corazón. Podemos revisar:

    Se hace el parto por cesárea cuando se determina que es más seguro para la mamá, el bebé, o los dos. C-section is done when it’s determined to be safer for the mother, the baby, or both.
    A veces tomamos la decision antes del parto y otras veces se presenta un riesgo durante el trabajo de parto y sugerimos cesárea Sometimes we make the decision before birth and other times there is a risk during labor and we suggest c-section

    Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Spanish: Endoscopia gastrointestinal

    La endoscopia es cuando le introducimos un tubo con cámara para ver dentro de tracto gastrointestinal. Hay 3 tipos de endoscopia comunes que detallamos abajo. There are 3 common types of endoscopy that we detail below:

    ¿Qué es?

    La circuncisión es cuando se quita el prepucio (la piel que tapa la cabeza del pene).

    Membrane Rupture “Stripping the membranes” in Spanish: Ruptura de membranas

    ¿Qué es?

    Romperle las membranas es cuando su proveedor rompe el saco amniótico con su dedo.

    A veces la mamá rompe fuente por sí misma. Sometimes mom experiences the water breaking by herself.

    El monitoreo fetal es cuando observamos la frecuencia cardíaca del bebé

    Es para ver si hay cambios en la frecuencia cardíaca del bebé durante el trabajo de parto. It is to see if there are changes in the baby’s heart rate during labor.
