A note from Leslie (your personal guide through this challenge)…
I’m Leslie Foster and my husband (Rory Foster) and I began Common Ground International (a family run small business) in the early 2000’s when we saw adult Spanish students getting frustrated because they were not making the progress they wanted in traditional courses. After lots of trial and error and real- time research, we flipped the language learning model and re-created a learning framework that has helped thousands of Spanish learners move from knowing ABOUT Spanish to SPEAKING SPANISH!
We’ve been working with and listening to thousands of adult learners just like you to narrow down the Spanish language, to focus in and uncover the Spanish essentials that help you achieve your Spanish learning goals and allow you to connect better with the language often resulting in making a deeper impact in your community.
Once you start applying the learning strategies we’ve outlined for you and begin learning the most relevant Spanish content for you…
- You will see progress in your Spanish communication skills!
- Your Spanish will come to life!
- You will be able to use it for your intended purposes!
- You can have a bigger impact in your community!
¡Nos vemos en el desafío!
What our students say…
I have been part of the CGI learning community and have been so impressed with all the free content provided by Rory and Leslie. They have been really responsive to making content relevant to my work. Great work and an amazing contribution to our Spanish speaking communities.

Leslie and Rory are absolutely wonderful teachers. Being a part of this community has significantly improved my Spanish speaking. I was about as much of a beginner as one could be, and now I am able to converse in Spanish with a friend in Costa Rica! I still need to improve a lot, but I know I can and will. Common Ground International gave me the bravery to make mistakes so I can grow. Thank you! I am so grateful!

The Intercambio program has helped me grow in my Spanish abilities and enriches my life with new conversational experiences. The weekly guides refresh my vocabulary and provide a template for my Spanish/English conversations with my international speaking partners. Intercambio is a meaningful way to learn, practice, and enjoy Spanish for people of any age or background

Common Ground International presents a safe environment where both beginning and advanced learners have the opportunity to progress. The virtual group lessons are full of meaningful material that can be immediately practiced. The written materials are professionally relevant, progress in a logical format, and provide a useful reference for study in between virtual sessions.

I absolutely love being apart of the Intercambio community. They helped me plan a way out of my plateau. It was the little boost I needed to get back on track and start enjoying my Spanish learning once again. That’s just the beginning, I’m confident within a short time from now I will be speaking more Spanish with less fear and more confidence! A big thanks to the Common Ground Team.

The teachers have created a model of learning that I look forward to each week: a lesson guide with a theme, vocabulary and videos. Then, it’s fun meeting my conversation partner online to discuss it all. There are no awkward moments of silences because we have a theme to discuss. And there is much enthusiasm, laughter and support in learning a language, by both the teachers and the conversation partner.

Your program has a lot of great resources, and I love the language lessons and practice guides. It definitely gives me something to aim for. My goal is definitely to become a proficient Spanish speaker. I know if I stick with this program, I will reach my goal. Thank you so much for your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm!

Hola!
I want to participate in the challenge because I need to improve my skills.
I would like to participate in the challenge. I work with a diverse population in the education field and we are a Hispanic Serving Institution and I need to improve my skills.
Appreciate you.
I love your challenges! I know it will help me keep up with everything I learned in Costa Rica. I hope I see some familiar faces. I will do my best to make all the meetings. This new job is really keeping me busy!
Leslie and Rory are the real deal. I traveled to Costa Rica with their program this summer and they are attentive and expert at everything they do. I saw people in my program with intercambio partners in Costa Rica meet in person for the first time who clearly had friendships that will last a lifetime.
Hola amiga- great to see you signed up for the challenge. Nos vemos pronto en línea!
thank you
gracias!
Con mucho gusto Martha- no vemos en el desafío!
Hi, Leslie, thank you for offering this program. I have a previous commitment on Monday, the 18th. Is there any way to make it up? If not, would I still benefit from the program if I miss the first session?
Hola Alex! Of course, just do what you can- we all have super busy lives🤪! On Monday the lesson is two parts- a recorded lesson for you and a live lesson. You can still get the recorded tips and strategies- but will miss the live practice session. We will offer another practice session on Thursday.
I teach full time. What time do the live classes take place?
Hola Bailey y bienvenida al desafío! We will have two live sessions that take place on Monday, Oct. 18th and Thursday, Oct. 21. Both of those are at 8pm ET.
Is this for the people with the intermediate and above Spanish skills? Is there any for a very beginner?
Great questions Kelko! All levels welcome to join. See you in the challenge!
Link not opening.
Yes, we’re working on it. Sorry about this. Can you try on Chrome?
Thanks Joan for letting me know! You are correct, it was down yesterday:). I think the problem is resolved now. Can you try registering again?
Thanks for taking the time to give me a heads up!
Would not connect me to the link.
You’re right! It seems to be working with Chrome browser (which is what we test on) but after checking – it’s not on Safari. Weird – We’ll hopefully fix overnight.
